Eli Cohen, Chief Investment Officer

Prior to founding Catenary, Mr. Cohen worked at Strategic Investment Group, an outsourced investment office for pension funds, foundations, and endowments with over $30 billion in assets under management. At Strategic, Mr. Cohen was a senior member of the alternatives investment team overseeing investments in hedge funds, private equity and real estate. Mr. Cohen was responsible for manager identification, due diligence, performance analytics and portfolio construction for a $4 billion dollar portfolio of hedge fund investments. In addition, he created and managed a portfolio of opportunistic investments that fell outside of established asset classes.

Before joining Strategic Investment Group, Mr. Cohen worked in Structured Credit at Lehman Brothers where he covered hedge funds and proprietary trading desks.

Mr. Cohen received a JD from Harvard Law School and an MBA from Harvard Business School, where he was named a Baker Scholar, the school’s highest academic award. Mr. Cohen received an AB from Harvard College, magna cum laude in Economics. 

Mr. Cohen is a member of the DC advisory board for the Posse Foundation and a trustee of the Air Force Aid Society.


Jim Besaw, Principal

Prior to founding Catenary, Mr. Besaw worked at Element Capital, a top-performing multi-billion dollar hedge fund focused on Global Macro trading. At Element, Mr. Besaw was responsible for asset class expansion, new business development, recruiting, investor relations and evaluation of private investment opportunities. Mr. Besaw served on the firm’s risk committee and spent extensive time discussing macroeconomic strategy, positioning and portfolio hedging with sovereign wealth funds, pensions, insurance companies, fund of funds and family offices.  In addition to Catenary, Mr. Besaw is also the Chief Investment Officer of GenTrust, a Catenary affiliate. 

Prior to Element, Mr. Besaw was a Managing Director at Barclays Capital, where he was the Head of USD Fixed Income Options Trading. Mr. Besaw managed a team of 12 traders across 3 times zones and dozens of products.

Prior to Barclays, Mr. Besaw was a Vice President and Head of USD Fixed Income Options Trading at J.P. Morgan Chase. Mr. Besaw and his team of 9 traders regularly traded over $10 billion dollars of interest rate swaps, options and fixed income securities daily with the world’s largest pensions, banks, mortgage companies, corporations, asset managers and hedge funds.

Mr. Besaw graduated with distinction from Yale University with a Bachelor of Arts in Economics and Mathematics. Mr. Besaw won the Ronald Meltzer Prize for most outstanding senior essay: Managing the Risks of Plain-Vanilla and Exotic Options. Mr. Besaw is a Chartered Financial Analyst.

Matthew Kishlansky, Principal

Prior to joining Catenary, Mr. Kishlansky was the founder and managing partner of Old Master Capital, LLC, a managed account for a ten billion dollar multi-strategy hedge fund. Prior to founding Old Master Capital, LLC, Mr. Kishlansky was a portfolio manager at Pentagon Capital Management, Plc in London. At Pentagon, he originated, structured and managed alternative strategies including the Pentagon Hercules Fund, a portfolio with over $700 million worth of alternative investments and the Pentagon Bernini Fund, an illiquid finance fund focused on absolute returns.

Mr. Kishlansky received an AB from Harvard College, magna cum laude in the History of Art and Architecture.

Claire L. Rogan, Chief Financial Officer & Head of Operational Due Diligence

Prior to joining Catenary, Ms. Rogan worked for 4 years as the Controller of Berens Capital Management, LLC, a New York-based fund of hedge funds. As Controller, Ms. Rogan was responsible for the accounting, audit and tax work as well as operational due diligence for the firm's funds.

Ms. Rogan began her career at Ernst & Young, LLP in the Financial Services Office where her clients included hedge funds, private equity firms and fund of funds.

Ms. Rogan graduated from Fairfield University with a B.S. in accounting and finance. She is a New York State Certified Public Accountant.

Zulay Hunter, Chief Compliance Officer

Prior to joining Catenary, Ms. Hunter worked for nearly 19 years at Merrill Lynch including roles focused on compliance, broker supervision and regulatory risk.  While at Merrill Lynch Bank of America, she served on the Advisory Council to Management and the Diversity & Inclusion Committees.

Ms. Hunter has a Bachelor Degree in Finance and International Business from Florida International University.
